Richard Carter clockmaker of Mayfield Sussex

I wonder if anyone has details of Richard Carter clockmaker of Mayfield in Sussex. A customer will be inheriting one of his clocks. a 30 Hr painted square dial long case and would like to find out all he can about Richard Carter.

Loomes, in his Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World book, lists a Richard Carter working in Mayfield Sussex in 1797. This is the only mention we can find, even E. J. Tyler in his book of Sussex makers does not list him.
The ancestry website lists the marriage of a Richard Carter to Elizabeth Weller in the same year.
