Hi - I have a long case grandfather clock with a moon dial. The dial shows James Sagar of Blackburn as the maker. He is listed in Loomes Lanacashire Clocks and Clockmakers as a Watchmaker in Northgate, Blackburn from 1838-51.
I would love to see any other examples of his clocks. I am particularly interested in identifying the company or individual that painted the dial. The style is very distinctive. Single brushstrokes for ship sails, very pointy cottages with concave roofs, sheep and geese in the distance that are suggested by the shape of the applied paint as opposed to details.
In all my web searches I have found one clock by Sagar of Blackburn. The dial was painted by the same artist as mine. The picture is floating around out there on the web although the clock has been sold. It is at Cheshire Grandfather Clocks under the listing for an Antique Eight Day Halifax Moon Longcase/Grandfather Clock.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Patience S.

Re: James Sagar of Blackburn Longcase clock
Hi Patience,
I have had a look in our books, but cannot find any photos of clocks by him, sorry. One of the best sources of photos I have often found is ebay, when someone is selling a clock by a maker.
